The Road To Africa’s Single Market: Progress so far and challenges for the future

About the project

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement is one of the biggest continent-wide projects aimed at economic integration and African industrialisation through increased intra-African trade. The agreement’s Secretariat has launched an interim trading arrangement to test the agreement’s provisions while negotiations are ongoing. National, regional and continental institutions are also preparing for the AfCFTA by putting the necessary infrastructure and processes in place. Progress has been made on all fronts, and the agreement continues to enjoy significant political will. This paper presents an assessment of trade readiness on three levels: Continental, Regional and National.
